DDB Holiday Party

The DDB holiday party is a big deal. So the pressure was on for me as an intern. After brainstorming with the team, I wanted to do some lettering surrounded by objects of the aftermath of a holiday party (keeping it PG of course). The poster design would extend to the awards presentation as well as a gif played on all the TVs in the venue while the party started.

The Process
After sketching thumbnails, I roughed out 5 different sketch explorations to explore lockups and ligatures. I scanned the sketch and pen tooled it in illustrator, messing with the swashes and locking down where "under the" would go. I printed it in blue with a low opacity, traced over with Elmer's glue, and poured glitter over so that the lettering wouldn't shift while placing props around.
Sketching explorations of smaller thumbnails that I had started with to explore lockups and styles.
Vectorized the lettering in illustrator and played with ligatures and swashes.
Really felt like I was gluing down macaroni art but turned out nice!
